Anyone else struggling to personalize offers without it getting... creepy?
Okay so I am working on this marketing project for my digital comms class and honestly, I’m hitting a weird wall with personalization. Like, how do you actually use customer data to make personalized offers without crossing the line into this brand is watching me territory?
We’re trying to build out this campaign for a fictional e-commerce brand (think mid-tier clothing, kinda like Uniqlo vibes but smaller scale), and the brief is all about “maximizing customer engagement through tailored promotions.” Cool. Sounds simple. But then you start digging into segmentation, behavioral data, customer journeys… and it gets real messy, real fast.
For example—one of my group members wants to send push notifications to people who’ve clicked on something once. Like bruh, what if I accidentally clicked? That doesn’t mean I want you in my notifications asking me to “complete my purchase” two minutes later. Chill.
We’ve looked at some loyalty program tie-ins and dynamic discounts based on past behavior, and honestly, I love those ideas. Stuff like birthday offers, personalized bundle suggestions, that kind of thing it feels thoughtful, not invasive. But where’s the line? And who decides it?
I came across this platform (Vouchery hence why I’m here lol) and started messing around with the idea of rule-based vs. AI-powered offers. Rule-based seems safer in a way, because you control the logic. AI stuff gets spooky. Like, it might work, but does it feel human?
Also, minor side rant: We’re supposed to write a short case study to explain our strategy, and the prof is super picky about format, examples, citations, everything. If anyone has experience in this kind of thing and could toss some Case Study Writing Help my way, that would be a blessing. It’s due in like five days and my brain is all over the place between copywriting, logic flows, and making this dumb presentation not look like it was made in PowerPoint 2008.
Anyway, I’d love to hear from people who’ve done this kind of thing in a real job, or even just other students who’ve experimented with personalized offers. How do you balance being data-driven and respectful? What’s too much tracking? Is there such a thing as too personalized?
Also, is it just me or does it feel like consumers are kinda burned out on promo codes? Like, if everyone’s always offering 15% off, does anyone even care anymore?
Alright I’ve rambled enough. If you’ve got thoughts (or resources, or templates, or honestly just vibes), drop ‘em below. Would seriously appreciate it.
